History of the
Edgewater Inn.......
Trevor and Mildred Bennett
opened the Edgewater Inn as a Bed and Breakfast in their home located on the
Humber River in 1990. It quickly became known for Mildred's wonderful
muffins and home made jam, not to mention Trevor's historical knowledge. Mildred
and Trevor were missing the stimulating conversation and activity the guests at
their original hospitality business brought them. The Benfield Motel was built in 1963
by Trevor and Mildred in the community of Daniels Harbour on the North West
coast of the island. It was one of the first motels in Newfoundland. At that
time Trevor and Mildred charged
$6.00 a night and the people questioned Trevor "Who would ever pay to stay in a room when they could stay with friends for
free?" The business was a success and the Northwest coast was never
the same.
In 2003 Trevor and Mildred's son
Noel returned with his family to continue a long
family tradition of Newfoundland hospitality. Mildred and Trevor retired to do some
traveling, spend time with grandchildren and watch the business change and grow! The
Bennett and Field families have a long Newfoundland history, much of which you
can listen to over coffee and a muffin at the Edgewater Inn!
